La Herradura is 7 minutes drive away by tarmac road. The village has several mini markets whilst the covered market open daily (except Sundays) has stalls for fresh produce, meat, fish (except Monday) bread, fruit and vegetables. The village also has three banks, a number of pharmacies, hairdressers, a dentist, a medical centre, art galleries and beach restaurants and bars. There is also a night club. Almunecar, 20 minutes distance, has two supermarkets, a weekly street market (Fridays) and a monthly flea market (First Saturday of month).

Sport and Entertainment

Golf: There are two courses. At Salobrena (Motril) there is nine hole course (25 minute drive), and at Velez Malaga (Baviera) there is an 18 hole course (30 minutes)

Tennis: Two clubs in the village

Windsurfing, Sailing, Scuba Diving/Snorkelling,Paragliding are available in the bay

A Water Park is in Almunecar
Beaches: Apart from the bay, there are a number of coves within easy driving distance (20 minutes)

Walks: La Herradura is surrounded by some beautiful hills and valleys which are well worth a trek for the energetic and naturalists.

 

Places of Interest

Granada with the famous Alhambra Palace and its many historical buildings including Isabel and Ferdinand’s tomb is 75 minutes drive, whilst the Sierra Nevada and Alpujarras to its south are 90 minutes drive.

Malaga has many historic connections and houses the Picasso museum. It is a 75 minutes drive.

Nerja has famous caves, and in the holiday season ballet, opera and musical festivities take place in them. Nerja is 15 minutes away.

Almunecar is an old Roman town and has a castle and narrow streets which are well worth a visit.

 

Travel

La Herradura is reached by a motorway (Autovia) from Malaga, with the last section only recently completed. It takes approximately one hour from the airport.There is an international airport at Granada, and whilst the journey is a little longer (75 minutes), entry and departure procedures at the airport are quicker than at Malaga which is always crowded. Almeria also has an airport and journey time to La Herradura is about 90 minutes. Guests who phone the house manager on departure from the airport will be met at La Herradura petrol station and guided to the house. A welcome pack of food and drink to keep body and soul together until house guests are able to shop, is provided on arrival.
